Today, Senator Rand Paul spoke, in his address before the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a true message of liberty. This was not your typical Republican speech on family values, immigration, protecting our borders, gun rights and rehashing the debacle known as Obamacare. He did not talk about electing Republicans. He spoke about Libertarianism.
“We will not trade our liberty for security. Not now, not never!” – Senator Rand Paul, CPAC 2014.
In a speech that would make a Libertarian weep with pride, Senator Rand Paul tried to add America’s Libertarians to the Republican platform. This CPAC speech, professing words few Republicans have ever really heard, was his first big speech on his way to taking on that monumental task. In Senator Rand Paul’s opening lines he said, “I’m talking about electing Lovers of Liberty!” He went on to emphasize the need to “Defend the rights of all.” The emphasis is on the ‘all’.
Senator Paul hopes he will be heard by a much more diverse party. He speaks often about defending the rights of African Americans and the injustices of the past. Trying to redirect the over-killed Republican talking point on gun rights, he said “The fourth amendment is as equally important as the second amendment and conservatives can’t forget this.” To the overwhelming cheers of this energetic crowd he exclaimed “What you do on your cell phone is none of their damn business!”
This speech was well-received and embraced by the young crowd of Republicans in attendance at CPAC. But, will it be accepted by the Republicans in the Bible Belt, the Republicans that live in fear of illegal immigrants, and Republicans that loaded up on ammo and arms when President Obama was re-elected? Rand Paul would not have promoted the Patriot Act like President Bush. And, he won’t talk about building a wall on our Mexican border. But, he will talk about helping the unemployed, limiting the NSA, and stimulating the economy to bring jobs back to towns like Detroit.
The President’s approval rating is once again below 40%, and Senator Rand Paul is leading the Republican hopefuls for the 2016 election. Even with a galvanized Republican base, America will most likely see a Democrat in the White House in 2016. Unless, of course, the Republican Party opens its borders. Republicans need to “include a lot of people… moderates, independents, and conservatives,” Senator Rand Paul openly stated to Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
In an interview on Glenn Beck’s show The Blaze, Senator Rand Paul offered some insights into what he sees as the NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY. He boldly said: “I think Republicans will not win again, in my lifetime, for the presidency, unless they become a new GOP, a New Republican Party … and, it has to be a transformation.”
Rand Paul hopes Republicans take his “message to people in a way they can understand it.” He shies away from talking to young people about taxes and budgets that are too high – topics that aren’t on the forefront of most of their minds right now. Instead, he talks to young people about rights to privacy, keeping the government out of their cell phones, and away from what young people read and do in privacy.
Senator Paul says the Republican Party should empathize with African Americans and Hispanics because “…the war on Drugs, big government has had a racial outcome, its disproportionately affected the poor and the black and the brown among us. And, we need to have better criminal justice.” This is a bold change from a leader of the party which has led the charge to criminalize every aspect of the war on drugs.
Senator Rand Paul explained to a not-tie wearing Glenn Beck:
“It’s the ideas of liberty and presenting them to everyone, not just white folks with ties on.”
And, Rand Paul didn’t shy away from the inner struggle within the Republican Party. He embraced it saying: “There is a struggle going on within the Republican Party. It’s not new, and I’m not ashamed of it. I’m proud of the fact that there is a struggle. And I will struggle to make the Republican Party a different party, a bigger party, a more diverse party, and a party that can win national elections again.”
Rand is building support for a Republican Party that will be the party of less government and liberty for all Americans – yes ALL Americans. Senator Paul wants to put diversity into action not just through words on the Republican platform. That may include the further decriminalization of marijuana and getting government out of the bedroom. It’s a platform that speaks to the heart of what matters to more people.
By focusing on what matters to people now, the New Republican Party might once again be heard on its plans to keep the country running prosperously long into the future. Senator Rand Paul’s New Republican Party speaks to more Americans. By doing so, he expects more people to listen. His 2016 hopes may depend on it.
Rand Paul aims to Win Women With attacks on Slick Willy
Senator Rand Paul has pulled no punches in recent days regarding the questionable ethics of former President Bill Clinton. He has referred to then President Clinton’s behavior with intern Monica Lewinsky as the act of a “sexual predator.” Senator Paul reminded us again about the many women that had come forward to say that they too were either harassed or in affairs with Bill Clinton. He reminded us again about how The Clintons paid off Paula Jones to drop a sexual harassment lawsuit in 1998.
So, why is Rand Paul digging up all of this old dirt?
For that answer, simply check out any recent poll on the 2016 election. You will see Hillary Clinton already projected to beat every potential Republican candidate with a pulse. Gov. Christie, Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Cruz, Rubio, Bush, and others are all a distant second to Hillary Clinton in national polling. While Rand Paul is leading in a state here or there, Hillary Clinton is leading the polls by a wide margin over every single candidate the Republicans have thought about running in 2016.
Senator Paul spent much of January keeping his leading Republican 2016 competition – Gov. Chris Christie – and his questionable Bridgegate and Sandy Relief ads front and center for the American people. Now it is Hillary’s turn.
The problem is not even four dead Americans including the first assassination of an Ambassador in more than three decades under her watch as Secretary of State will stop people from voting for Hillary Clinton. Since Hillary has proven to be more Teflon than her husband, Senator Paul has focused on Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton oversaw one of the more economically prosperous and job-friendly eras in American history. He was also only the second President to be impeached by the House of Representatives.
The attacks on Bill Clinton are aimed at winning the female base.
While one might think that female base is a lock for the only legitimate female candidate for President in U.S. history, Obama’s 2008 candidacy would strongly disagree. Then candidate Obama won the female vote in more than 40% of the state nominations. Additionally, Obama gained more than twice as many female donors than Hillary in the 2008 primary.
Now, Rand Paul wants to win that same female base that Obama took from Hillary Clinton. The attacks on Bill Clinton will hopefully remind voters that Hillary stood by her man while he repeatedly harassed his staff and sexually took advantage of his subordinates. These attacks remind Americans that the Clinton marriage is purely political. The insinuation is that Hillary Clinton is power-hungry and willing to do anything to win the Presidency. Rand Paul’s attacks on former President Clinton aim to undermine the assumption that women will automatically vote for Hillary in 2016. Let’s hope this friendly reminder is working!
A week after NJ Governor Chris Christie’s two hour press conference on his Bridgegate scandal, a Federal Probe was launched into Governor Christie’s Sandy Relief Tourism Ads. Between new insights on the Bridgegate revenge plan and this Federal Probe into the Sandy Relief Ads, 2014 is off to a rough start for Governor Christie.
The Bridgegate investigation expanded this week as new emails revealed top aids tried to delay the re-opening of the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge. I guess four days of bottleneck traffic on one of the countries most actively traveled bridges wasn’t enough retaliation for Governor Christie’s administration.
Who will Gov. Chris Christie fire over these latest revelations about his rogue top staffers?
Why are so many of Gov. Christie’s top aids abusing their power and opposing the wishes of the Governor?
Where is my sarcasm emoticon?
Senator Rand Paul Spoke Out Months Ago!
More than two months after Senator Rand Paul spoke out against the Hurricane Sandy Relief ads featuring Gov. Christie during his political campaign, a Federal Probe launches into this matter. Senator Paul said “…I would say that if I were in your position I would have said no.” As we all should, Sen. Paul and the Federal probe question whether the $25 million ad campaign should have prominently featured Gov. Christie and his family.
One more concerning aspect of the ad campaign was the bidding process for the proposals on this ad campaign. The proposals were evaluated by a committee made up entirely of members of Gov. Christie’s administration. The campaign which won the bid featured Governor Christie and his family. The other proposals did not. The ad firm that won the campaign was awarded $4.7 million. One of the other bidders, New Jersey Ad agency Sigma Group, had the lowest bid. The Sigma Group was charging $2 million less than the winning bid. It appears they used the wrong actors.
With the spotlight on Governor Christie and his administration, some eye-opening insights are gained. From Bridgegate, we learn one of two possibilities: One, Gov. Christie handed over too much control to high ranking untrustworthy aids to his administration; Or, two, there is a willingness to abuse the power and trust of the people he governs by Gov. Christie himself. From the Sandy Ad Campaign, we learn that Gov. Christie’s administration is willing to use Federal funds from a disaster that devastated the lives of people in his home state to promote his own political future. For a rising star with eyes on the White House, these insights are alarming.
We are increasingly seeing Sen. Mitch McConnell buddy up with his junior Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.
Recently, Sen. McConnell sided with Rand Paul and as he opposed Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget deal last month. This was a surprise from a guy who votes along party lines almost 90% of the time. Additionally, Sen. McConnell has been running ads linking him with Rand Paul in the fight against Obamacare.
So, why is this lifelong KY Senator trying to link himself to Sen. Rand Paul?
Simply put, he is up for re-election and will do and say anything to win. He always has. And, if he acted more like Sen. Rand Paul, he would quite easily win! So, that is what McConnell is doing.
In his 30TH year as a United States Senator, this he may be facing the toughest race since his first Senate win all the way back in 1984. In the latest poll, Sen. McConnell only has a 1pt lead over Democratic opponent Grimes. In addition, McConnell can’t be confident he will even get beyond Louisville businessman Matt Bevin in the Republican primary. Recently, he was polling behind this relatively unknown by about 1pt in the primary election. More than 60% of Kentuckians don’t like the job Senator McConnell is doing.
So, while Sen. Mitch McConnell wants to look more and more like Rand Paul, Senator Rand Paul would be wise to just far away from his Senior counterpart. Several Polls show McConnell as the least liked Senator in the country. No one would brag about being the most-liked in this bunch. And, Mitch McConnell is the least liked! That ranking has “Late Night punch-line” written all over it. Who would you rather be visited by: Aaron Hernandez or the country’s most unpopular Senator? Would you rather be solicited for an investment from Madoff or a donation from McConnell?
Mitch McConnell is a classic party boss. He is the epitome of what is wrong with the Republican party and the perfect example of what needs to be removed from the United States Senate. Mimicking Rand Paul of late does not convince the people that he has changed his ways. The American people and the people from the great state of Kentucky know his type, and they want him gone. For 30 years, McConnell has led us down a path to high deficits, higher debts, and attacks on our personal liberty.
In this case, forget Sun-tzu’s quote “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”. You can’t teach that old dog new tricks. We have seen Senator McConnell’s tricks before. Senator Rand Paul, keep fighting for our Liberty, and you will soon be the most Senior Senator in Kentucky.
The Farm Bill seems to be the latest “can” this Congress continues to “kick” down the road. It was more than a year ago that Senator Paul warned that it oftentimes takes up to six weeks to pass a Farm Bill!
Wait … six weeks to pass a Farm Bill? … Yep!
The bill helps subsidize crop insurance and offers other aid to our farmers. These Farm Bills usually have bipartisan support – (That’s a phrase we don’t hear anymore.) – If it does not pass in the next few weeks, the bill will revert to a bill from 1949. Milk prices and prices of many other commodities would go through the roof.
So, what’s the problem?
It’s the U.S. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (a.k.a. FOOD STAMPS.) More than 15% of our population, over 47 million people, are in this program. That is over 20 million more people on Food Stamps than five years ago. Food stamps are a huge part of the Farm Bill. Not surprisingly, this is the key sticking point in the Farm Bill. Republicans/House want to tighten eligibility for the program, cutting nearly four- million people from the program next year and saving $40 billion over a decade. Democrats in The Senate aim to generally keep the food stamp program the same, cutting out a utilities loophole and only saving $4.7 billion over the next ten years.
House Speaker John Boehner tried to pass a Farm bill back in July but could only get Republican support after dropping the food stamp benefits. Not a single House Democrat voted for this bill.
This morning on Cincinnati based 55KRC radio show with Brian Thomas, Sen. Rand Paul said this bill allows for “$800 billion for food stamps over ten years.” He said that number “doubled from where it once was.” Once again, “the voice of reason,” Senator Paul wants this bill to be there to help those that really need help. Sen. Paul also wants to reduce the Farm subsidies for the those farmers making over $1 million per year.
Should 15% of Americans be in the Food Stamp programs?
No. We can’t afford to keep paying for those that don’t need our help. Set up our programs to help ONLY those that need help.
The ObamaCare disaster continues - On the evening of November 5th, 2013, Senator Rand Paul appeared on Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Show. Sen. Paul discussed the backwards nature of the ObamaCare website. Americans are accustomed to buying something online when we know the price up front. First, we decide if we like the price and product … and only then, we input our personal information, payment information, and we buy the product.
In contrast, required of ObamaCare applicants, is the method to offer all of their personal information up front without knowing the price. Applicants have no right to privacy on this information, and often-times the price changes after already committing to buy the health insurance. Oh yeah, and possibly penalized for not buying? Can I invest into this goldmine? That is backwards!
Sen. Rand Paul made a couple other good points that fly in the face of Gov. Steve Beshear’s comments on CNBC about a week ago. On CNBC, Gov. Beshear spoke about how great Obamacare and the exchanges were going in his great state of Kentucky, adding that the KY plan is “going gangbusters.”
Let’s see what Senator Rand Paul says about this:
In Kentucky, “Ten times as many people have lost their insurance as have signed up for ObamaCare.”
Of those that did sign up for ObamaCare, “85% of people in my state [KY] signed up for Medicaid, free health care.”
That means that for every person that is signing up for Obamacare in KY, at least five more are signing up for Medicaid – which is free! How are we paying Obama-Care again when five-out-of six people are getting it for free? Governor Beshear, what exactly do you call “going gangbusters?”
While not a foregone conclusion, Senator Rand Paul appears to be well on his way to making a run for the Republican nomination for President in 2016. As we learn from this Herald-Leader article By Sam Youngman, Senator Rand Paul is building his reach beyond the Tea Party while not alienating them.
He is speaking openly about the issues that matter like “Obamacare, Benghazi and Fast and Furious”. And, he is raising money. Keep it up Senator Rand Paul. America needs to learn what Kentucky already knows and is proud of. Sen. Rand Paul has a vision for this country that will strengthen the shrinking middle class, eliminate the deficit, and get this economy growing without repeated stimulus and trillions of IOUs from the FED. Make a run Rand! We can’t wait!
“I’m seriously thinking about maybe giving another opportunity for you to vote for or against me in a few years from now,” Sen. John McCain said on KFYI-AM in Phoenix …
Sen. McCain, thank you for the opportunity and for your service to the American people, but no thank you on another run for President. Senator McCain’s mixed messages for the past few decades are so hard to keep up with that you would have better luck catching up Usain Bolt in a foot race. The Republican Party needs a leader with a consistent record of voting for conservative values, less government, personal liberty, a focus on deficit and debt reduction, and a desire to create change from Washington’s deep-rooted spending ways. Sen. McCain, unfortunately, would be more of the same.
Sen. Rand Paul’s issue with the Janet Yellen nomination is not about Janet Yellen. After all, Janet Yellen has stated on numerous occasions that she is for more transparency of the FED. Rand Paul is seeking to get a bi-partisan vote on his Audit the FED bill. Among other goals, Senator Paul is seeking the give congressional oversight to the many activities of the FED. The nomination is a great opportunity to exemplify why this bill is necessary. Why is the FED important? Many say the FED is independent and doesn’t need oversight, this may make the FED to political, and others even argue that the FED’s secret operations should be kept secret. This is the most powerful institution in America if not the world. It has the ability to impact the interest rate that you, every entity, corporation, municipality and government/pays on virtually everything that gets financed. It controls the money flow for the world’s reserve currency. The FED is charged with reduces unemployment and controlling inflation. Oversight is valuable and necessary! If the FED must exist, there should be oversight.
The FED controls the FED Funds Rates which directly and indirectly have impacted the roller-coaster of boom and recession in this country for decades. Look at the last 15 years. From Mid-1999 through May of 2000, the FED steadily raised Fed Funds rates, leading to the bust of possibly the most over-valued stock market in history (more than an 80% drop in the NASDAQ). By January of 2001, the FED changed its tune and drastically dropped interest rates until June of 2003. These low rates led to one of the largest overvaluations of the American real estate market in history as people started buying homes at rates not seen in most Americans’ lifetimes. Following that bust, the FED drastically reduced Fed Funds Rates from September 2007 through December 2008 and has held those rates at the lowest level in American history for nearly 5 years. Whether this is correlation or causation can be argued. More transparency might shed more light on the FED’s impact on this roller-coaster.
With so much control, congressional oversight is necessary. Now is the time for Senator Paul to make a stand on this key issue. It’s not personal.
